The role of the Security Profession
As we realise a new world order, defined by two men striving to dominate the world through force and coercion, we can adopt the words of Kissinger, when recognising that an opportunity may present itself for a country to emerge with the “power, the will, and moral impetus to shape the entire intellectual international system” in accordance with its own values. Rather than the United States fulfilling the role of an ambivalent global leader, as predicted by the American strategist, the United Kingdom may in fact present itself as the diplomatic pragmatist, forming international alliances and making commitments to global stability, which are unmatched amongst international partners. The role of the security community, both public and private, will be critical to the success of the UK in securing both National Security and in influencing international stability. Rather than adopting the position of a Crusader, thereby mirroring the opportunistic actions of our partners, the UK can position itself as a beacon of hope, striving for the establishment of a global order which has its foundations in democracy, international law, free and fair trade and cooperation for the sake of humanity. The UK Government’s recent security announcements, including a commitment to creating a safer environment for businesses to thrive, recognises that collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential for achieving this lofty goal. By partnering with commercial security companies, UK businesses can implement comprehensive security strategies that protect their assets and ensure resilience in the face of evolving threats. Thereby preparing for the fight we don’t want to have.
